Hoyinn Decodes Sustainable Development: Green Energy and Carbon Integration Reshapes the Foundation of Green Computing Power
Time:2024-03-18

On February 27, the 17th China IDC Industry Annual Ceremony with the theme of "Decoding Sustainable Development" was held in Beijing. Hoyinn CTO Zhou Tianyu, was invited to attend the conference and delivered a keynote speech on "Green Energy and Carbon Integration, Reshaping the Foundation of Green Computing Power" at the main forum, starting from the innovative practice of new green computing power clusters, in-depth discussion of the development model of green energy and carbon integration, and decoding the sustainable development of data centers.

Green energy and carbon integration is the only way for next-generation data centers

Since the "dual carbon" goal was proposed two years ago, the carbon neutral actions by technology and internet companies continue to deepen and carbon reduction of data centers is an important part of it. With the deepening of the "Eastern Data, Western Computing" project and energy consumption policies, large-scale data centers are facing severe challenges in green transformation while expanding their scale. The implementation of emerging technologies represented by AI has detonated the market's confidence in the growth of computing power demand on the one hand, and on the other hand, it has also exacerbated the concern of the whole society about energy consumption.

As a witness and practitioner of the development of the industry, Hoyinn has a deep insight into the multiple roles of data centers, which are not only computing facilities to support the expansion of digital business, but also a green foundation to empower customers to achieve carbon neutrality, and an innovative force to lead the energy transition.

Zhou Tianyu said in his speech, At present, the development direction of data centers is low-carbon and computing power revolution. In the past, we focused on energy saving to solve the x problem in PUE 1.x, and today we propose low-carbon, which is to solve the entire green and dual carbon problem. From zero-carbon design, green power planning, and green construction to data center operation and energy and carbon management, next-generation data centers must integrate digital energy and carbon throughout their life cycle to achieve high-quality and sustainable development.

Integrate green energy and carbon throughout the life cycle

Energy is the main artery that runs through data centers, and the application of renewable energy has opened up new horizons for the greening of data centers. From focusing on energy conservation to increasing the proportion of renewable energy, the sustainability of data centers has entered a new stage.

"Energy should be the primary consideration when building a next-generation data center." Based on the technical concept of "source-grid-load-storage" integration, Zhou Tianyu proposed the application path of renewable energy:

Site selection of renewable energy-rich areas: Layout planning in energy-rich areas such as wind, solar, hydro, hydrogen, biomass, geothermal, seawater, wave energy, and tidal energy lays a prerequisite for the green energy of data centers.

Green energy development: Formulate comprehensive solutions for green power consumption based on regional energy supply and energy consumption trends, simultaneously plan and deploy computing power services and green energy businesses, make full use of new energy resources, and give priority to the construction of centralized and distributed power stations.

Green power supply: Comprehensively consider the integrity of the power grid, build its own substations, deploy micro-grids, participate in the pilot of virtual power plants, and actively carry out market-oriented green power transactions, supplemented by green certificate transactions, to ensure the stable supply of green power in data centers.

Energy storage: Comprehensively eva1uate the cost, storage capacity, and safety of different energy storage technologies, and formulate feasible energy storage solutions based on local energy policies.

Energy saving: Make full use of natural cooling sources such as low temperature climate, cold wind, sea water, lake water, and caves, and combine technologies such as solar thermal, energy storage, and waste heat to achieve energy conservation and efficient use of energy in data centers.

Digital energy and carbon integrated management: Through the digital energy and carbon integrated management platform, the operation of the data center, energy storage situation, and carbon emission data are comprehensively studied and judged, and the real-time intelligent control of energy supply is carried out, so as to promote the refinement of energy consumption in the data center, realize the interaction between source, grid, load and storage, and fill the gap in the current zero-carbon management market in the data center industry.

Hoyinn Green Energy And Carbon Integration in Three Steps

Hoyinn is a leader in the green energy and data ecosystem, "The development model of green energy and carbon integration of Hoyinn not only solves its own zero-carbon needs, but also benefits customers and the industry to achieve carbon neutrality goals." ”

Zhou Tianyu clarified the uniqueness of the development model of Hoyinn's green-energy-carbon integration development, and summarized it into three steps:

The first step is to "put into production that is, zero carbon". It is planned to develop local green power to meet the demand for energy consumption of high-load computing power clusters and realize the "self-generation and self-consumption" of green power.

The second step is zero-carbon empowerment. Facing the carbon neutrality target needs of downstream customers, we will lay out carbon asset management business, provide zero-carbon value empowerment based on green computing power, and issue "zero-carbon bills" for customers.

The third step is zero-carbon inclusiveness. Based on the integration and innovation model of green green energy industries such as data centers, green energy, integrated energy services, and carbon asset management, Hoyinn will be promoted to the whole industry to achieve zero-carbon inclusiveness.

Building a zero-carbon data center to help the sustainable development of the data center is the key direction of the current industry exploration. As an expert member, Hoyinn participated in the compilation of the "White Paper :The Sustainability of Data Center Industry" and "Classification and eva1uation Method of Zero-carbon Data Center", which were also grandly released at this conference.

Under the joint guidance of the digital economy and the dual carbon goals, the data center industry is moving towards green and high-quality development. Hoyinn will accelerate the development of digital, energy and carbon integration, reshape the foundation of green computing power, and lead the sustainable development of next-generation data centers.
